503 Students Registered To Date for Supplies4Students
Oxford County, August 24, 2017 – In two short weeks, students will be settling into the new school year. In preparation, many families are beginning the annual tradition of purchasing school supplies. For others, there is simply not enough money. That’s where Supplies4Students, a community collaborative, is available to help. To date, 526 students have registered for the program with 129 of those students on a wait list to receive vouchers.
“The number of registrants thus far has surpassed last year’s total registration of 340. With a few weeks to go, we are anticipating that number to grow to around 700. We need the support of our community to ensure that every student has the opportunity to start the school year with the supplies they need to succeed. To meet the current and projected registrations, we need to raise $10,000 for the Supplies4Students initiative,” says Jennifer Belleth, Supplies4Students Coordinator
Supplies4Students is a community agency collaboration. Families’ call 2-1-1 to register, get on a list and receive a shopping code for purchasing school supplies. This unique program allows families to choose the items they need and shop within a budget. Students in Grades JK-6 receive a $35 shopping code and students in grades 7-12 receive $50.
“There are many ways for the community to support this initiative. Donations can be made online, at United Way Oxford, or at Staples locations in Woodstock and Tillsonburg. Group fundraising efforts are another great option. Consider a bake sale or barbecue. How about setting up a Supplies4Students jar in the lunchroom? We have a great toolkit that will provide you with ideas and inspiration,” says Jennifer Belleth.
