Helping Kids Be All They Can Be

From Poverty to Possibility

Why focus on kids?

Research shows the early years (prenatal – six) are the most important influence on a child’s development.

United Way is giving children and youth the support they need to get a great start in life, do well in school, and reach their full potential.

Every kid deserves a chance to have a great life—to develop from a curious, happy child to a healthy and productive member of society. But in order for that to happen, kids need to be set up for success from an early age. And for those growing up in poverty, witnessing domestic violence, or facing issues like mental illness or neglect, this is often not the case.

That’s why United Way works with community partners to invest in supports for children and youth, including mentoring opportunities, safe places to learn and grow, and access to healthy food – things that help youth successfully transition to adulthood. By investing in their lives—from early childhood to young adulthood—we ensure kids in Oxford County have everything they need to thrive today, and in the future.

Because of you, this year:

1,075 local youth had access to a caring, supportive mentor.

1,304 students received support to help purchase back to school supplies.

13,690 children and youth received support through a United Way funded program.
