A shared vision of a brighter future, deep-rooted in community aspirations was celebrated tonight as supporters, partners and community champions gathered to learn about investments and achievements that will help change lives.
“This is such a special evening. I’m truly inspired by the generosity of this community. As I reflect on the past two years, I am humbled by my experiences. The energy, enthusiasm and unwavering commitment of so many volunteers and partners are why we gathered tonight. We celebrate you! Thank you for strengthening our community by providing local opportunities,” said Megan Porter, United Way Oxford Campaign Chair.
On March 1st, United Way Oxford faced a $35,000 shortfall. To help fill the gap, the community was invited to participate in the #150UWChallenge. A challenge that celebrates the values Canadians are known for – being kind, caring, compassionate and wonderful neighbours. The response and participation was tremendous, greater than any dollar value.
“It is with great pride and admiration for our community that we celebrate this year’s achievement ($1,186,404). This remarkable effort is a result of our community coming together. Donors, corporate supporters, labour partners, sponsors, volunteers, student stair climbers! Without each and every one of you we wouldn’t be able to share this incredible success. Thank you!” said Kelly Gilson, Executive Director of United Way Oxford.
“These funds allow us to support necessary, local programs,” says Gilson. “Programs that are targeted, measurable and align with United Way Oxford’s priority areas of poverty to possibility, strong communities and all that kids can be. These investments support five locally developed strategies that are rooted in the aspirations of our community. By investing in these specific opportunities, we will be able to measure progress and show success in ways that have not been previously possible.”
United Way Oxford extends its sincere gratitude to Quality Hotel & Suites Convention Centre & Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada for generously sponsoring the Community Celebration.
